Chinese Garden in Singapore: A Peaceful Refuge In The City

We had an afternoon to ourselves in Sunny Singapore, and what better way to spend it than to explore another tourist spot! It was around 5pm when we decided to visit the famed Chinese Garden in Jurong East. We've heard some nice things about this place, so we thought we'd see it for ourselves. I've already visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens, so it's time to check out the Chinese Garden.

A little bit of background: The Singapore Chinese Garden was built in 1975 and designed by a well-known Taiwanese architect, Prof Yuen-Chen Yu. This 13.5-ha Garden was inspired by the classical northern-Chinese imperial style of architecture and landscaping, specifically reminiscent of the Sung Dynasty period.

The moment I entered the Chinese Garden, I was overcome with a pleasant feeling. I guess it's the combination of fresh air, the gentle breeze on my skin, the peaceful sound of the trees, the smell of the grass... a feeling only nature can give. We passed through a red wooden bridge, and even then we can see the large pagoda at a distance. Okay, so this is my first time to see a pagoda up close. And it was really impressive.

Steps leading to the top of the pagoda... it was no mean feat!

We climbed all the way to the top and enjoyed a nice view of the garden at a 7story-high viewpoint. There were tourists there climbing with us, as well as locals.

We also saw the twin pagodas... aren't they amazing? Breathtaking...

We enjoyed the leisurely stroll in the Chinese Garden. The whole place was calm and quiet and very impressive with all the tall trees, serene lakes and botanical wonders.

It was like the spirit of ancient China was conjured up in our visit to the Singapore Chinese Garden. We even saw some Chinese zodiac statues in the Garden of Abundance and we took pictures with them. They also have the Bonsai Garden and Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum but we didn't have the chance to visit because it was almost dark.

If you have a free afternoon in Singapore, I recommend you take a stroll in the Chinese Garden. If you're a nature lover, like myself, you'll definitely enjoy the beauty of the place with its meandering paths, woven plants, Chinese rocks, gentle stream and majestic pagodas.
